Catalytic Converters

Catalytic Converters

Catalytic converters were introduced in 1975 and have been mandatory on all vehicles manufactured since then.

An internal combustion engine, like the kind in your vehicle, creates emissions that are bad for the environment. To reduce pollution, a catalytic converter changes harmful gases into harmless ones. So you can see why it’s so important—to everyone—that your catalytic converter is working properly.

The guys at Auto Kruser's are trained, tested and top of the line in catalytic converter maintenance and repair, even for high performance vehicles.

The catalytic converter is located in your exhaust system, between the exhaust manifold and the muffler. Harmful gases, like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen enter the converter. There they react with chemicals and are converted into less harmful emissions like water, nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

Normally if there’s a problem, the “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light will appear on your dashboard. When you see this, come on in and see us at Auto Kruser's. We’ll check the diagnostic codes, and if there’s trouble with your converter or O2 sensor, we’ll take care of it. (Remember, that dashboard light doesn’t mean you have to stop driving immediately. It is meant as an alert, so when you see it, stop and see us at Auto Kruser's as soon as possible.)

Most times, a malfunctioning catalytic converter is a sign of another problem, like misfiring spark plugs. The guys at Auto Kruser's have the know-how and equipment to determine the problem.
